After Chador
Ramin Haerizadeh's colour photographic prints are a mesmerising spectacle of ornament, pattern, and symmetry, projected onto images of distorted male bodies. Arguably one of the most controversial artists to present at Saatchi's topical show ‘Unveiled: New Art from the Middle East’, Haerizadeh draws on the heritage of Islamic art to create powerful visual statements about notions of morality in contemporary Iran. His lavish mosaics are laden with erotic references, and powered by an urge to dispel the secrecy surrounding homosexuality.
