Bita Fayyazi
This incredible sculptures from Bita Fayyazi are the expression of the concern for all the born and unborn babies in the world.
The original idea comes from n installation in collaboration with a fellow artist Khosrow Hassanzadeh.On/Off (Abortion) consisted of 10 transparent fibreglass fe hanging at different heights from the ceiling, with umbilical cords connecting each fe which, flickering on and off to the sound of a recorded heart beat, periodically faded out. To accompany this, Hassanzadeh created three large silkscreen images of dead fe projected as silhouettes on to the walls.
Just as in the West, abortion here is a divisive issue surrounded by much controversy, although our intension was less to shock than to stimulate debate.
Created for the ON/OFF project for the Museum of Contemporary Art Tehran in 2007, the Babies still breathing today.
