In 'The Devil Came To Quench His Thirst, But Stumbled Into The Pool' (2008), Div, the horned demon of pre-Islamic tales is placed vis-a-vis a corpulent female figure. A symbol of fertility, she conjures up images of ancient mother goddess statuettes, symbolic of nature and carrying magical or devotional connotations. Fayyazi explores the relationship between the masculine and feminine via representations of women as a source of intrigue and the site of desire. The female is here depicted as a potent force but also an elusive ideal, surrounded by an aura of mystery and tantalizing inner strength that defies the predatory male gaze.
